High-quality jewelry wires from albrechtgold

Our range includes a large selection of jewelry wires made of 14K Gold Filled in the colors yellow gold and rose gold as well as 925 sterling silver. The round wire for jewelry making is available in different diameters from 0.25 mm to 1.3 mm in different degrees of hardness.

What is the difference between semi-hard and soft wire?

Due to the different degrees of hardness, both wire types have very different processing properties.

Semi-rigid wire is stronger overall and a little harder to deform. Due to the hardness, it can happen that the wire breaks with very small bending radii during processing. On the other hand, the wire is much more dimensionally stable overall and the likelihood that the finished piece of jewelery will deform when worn is significantly lower.

Soft wire is very easy to work with because it is very flexible. Due to the lower hardness, the risk of the wire breaking during processing is significantly lower. On the other hand, soft wire is not so dimensionally stable, so that the finished piece of jewelry can accidentally bend when worn.

In addition to the hardness, the wire diameter also plays a major role. In principle, thinner wires can be deformed very well, the differences between the degrees of hardness are less noticeable here. With larger diameters such as 1.0 or 1.3 mm, semi-hard wire is much more difficult to form than soft wire. Here the differences are very noticeable.

The choice of the right wire always depends on the planned piece of jewelery and is difficult to answer in general terms. Write us a message if you are unsure which wire is the right one for your jewelry project. We're happy to help you choose!

What are the individual wires made of?

We offer 925 Silver and 14K Gold Filled wires. The silver wires are made entirely of 925 silver and can easily be soldered with silver solder. The 14K Gold Filled wires are bimetallic, the material consists of a brass core covered with a layer of 14K gold. With this material, the gold layer is particularly thick and durable, accounting for 5 percent of the total weight.
